The Greene King and Belhaven Cellar Services team plays a crucial role in the operational success at all of the venues the free trade team supplies.

Our customers enjoy the personal service they receive from our team of skilled technicians who operate across the UK. We caught up with our engineer Harry who looks after the Norfolk area to find out how he took this career path and what his job entails.

Starting a career with Greene King

“I joined Greene King in 2019 as an office-based install coordinator and, as part of my training, I went out with the cellar service technicians. When I saw what they did it interested me so much that it became my goal to go that job myself.

I just loved everything about it, the way they worked, the bond they had with their customers and the freedom and the trust they received. Going out with them that day, I realised that it was something that I could do, and it became an obsession for me to achieve my dream.”

However, the opportunity to achieve his ambition didn’t come easily, as Harry explained:

“It’s very difficult job to get into, so unfortunately, I had to leave and I spent some time cleaning lines for a different brewery, and I trained as an engineer with them as well. But the first opportunity I received to get back here, I accepted and I’ve been in my current job for three years now.”

Pouring happiness into people's lives

It is rare to meet somebody with such a passion for their work as Harry, so what makes it such an enjoyable role for him?

“The Greene King brand is all about pouring happiness into people’s lives and that really is what we do. I enjoy being in pubs and around the people who run them. I understand the stress that they go through. So, when I am able to alleviate problems for them, I find that very rewarding.”

Harry is part of a team that provides support with breakdowns and also implements new installations. Unsurprisingly, he enjoys both aspects of the job.

“I love helping out customers by solving problems for them. I also love it when I’m involved in an install project, as I get to build it from scratch. It enables me to ensure that what we’re putting in is perfect from day one. It’s lovely to have that blank canvas.

Supporting the customers journey

So, what can customers expect from Harry and his colleagues?

“The first time I meet a customers I give them my number and tell them to call me at any time. I always try to do my job to the best standard I possibly can, and I take real pride in what I do.”
